WITHDRAWS FROM FEDERAL RESERVE NEW YORK, March 30 (AP)βThe Mercantile Bank and Trust Company of New York city has applied for withdrawal from the Federal Reserve system, it was announced today. The Mercantile failed to reopen after the bank holiday. Howell M. Stillman, president, and William A. Lobb, vice president, had no comment to make. The bank has a capital of $900,000 and surplus of $600,000. It is the successor of the Chelsea Bank & Trust Co., which was closed by the state banking department.
