THREE BANKS CLOSED Hartwell, Thomasville, Ga., And Cherokee, Kan., Houses Shut HARTWELL, Ga. β€” (INS) The First National Bank of Hartwell, this city's only bank failed to open for business Friday morning. THOMASVILLE, Ga. β€” (INS) β€” The Bank of Thomasville, one of South Georgia's oldest banks, had been closed Friday at the direction of the state bank examiner. Officials announced the action was taken to protect depositors after a run developed. The bank was capitalized at $150,000. CHEROKEE, Kan. β€” (AP) β€” The First National Bank of Cherokee was closed Friday by the board of directors. The institution had deposits Thursday of approximately $150,000 and was capitalized at $25,000. 12 ARE ARRESTED MONTGOMERYβ€”(AP)β€”Arrest of 12 persons Thursday followed raids by federal prohibition officers Wednesday. The arrests followed several weeks undercover work and included some of the largest wholesale liquor dealers in Southern Alabama, Victor J. Buthod, deputy prohibition administrator, said.
