LOCAL NEWS Dr. J. H. Worst left this week to conduct farmers' institutes at different points in North Dakota during the next month. On the first page of this paper an interesting contribution by Dr. Worst. While he is away News readers will miss his articles. E. G. Runkel of Havre arrived the first of the week to take charge of the affairs of the First National bank as receiver. No statement has been authoritatively made as to the probability of the reopening of the closed institution. The general guess is that all arrangements have been completed to reopen it within thirty days. the Orpheum Saturday night will undoubtedly attract the largest dance crowd of the season so far. The Interstate post of the American Legion is giving it, the date having been set ahead from last Saturday night on account of the athletic carnival at the school the night before. Music will be furnished by the "Midnight Rounders." A fine time is assured the attendance. Mrs. V. Russell returned from Williston Tuesday, where she attended the graduation exercises Monday evening at the Mercy hospital, her daughter, Miss Elsie being one of the graduating nurses. It was the first graduation held by the Mercy hospital which was established only three years ago. The entire class of graduates are now at Grand Forks taking state examinations. Albert Larson of Billings, Mont., one of the largest stockholders in the Albert Hotel Co., arrived here last week to assume charge of the hotel. He was formerly in business here, conducting for several years the Variety Store, which business he sold to Emil Johnsgaard. He has since then been in the tire vulcanizing business at Billings. The popularity of the Albert entered the ascendancy at once upon the exit of the former and the advent of the new management. The hotel is recognized as one of the best in eastern Montana. Lew Newlon took charge temporarily between managements and conducted the establishment in such a highly satisfactory manner that it was hoped he would continue in charge. He will be associated with Mr. Larson the management for a time, and if the business keeps increasing as it has since Mr. Mendelsohn left, they will probably find their continued cooperation necessary. Both gentlemen are clean businessmen—and that is the thing.

Clark, national bank receiver, the first of the week apprising depositor creditors of the defunct institution that upon return of accompaning receipts properly signed and receiver's certificates, checks would be mailed to the individual creditors for ten percent of their claims. The First National Bank as an institution had been quite forgotten by the people who had sunk their money in it. They thought it treasure lost in its entirety. When the bank closed, after its remaining assets had been gone over and its liabilities revealed, the assets appeared to be all liabilities and by what means the receivership has paid the bills and at the same time amassed an amount equal to ten percent of the deposit liabilities for distribution to the depostor creditors is a conundrum, All credit to the receivership, however, and may more dividends be declared.
