Overcoat Stolen—C. G. Paddock, 1716 State street, Bettendorf, told police Friday night his overcoat was stolen from the Masonic temple.
Prowlers Enter School.—Prowlers broke glass in a rear door at Hayes school, McKinley avenue and Concord street, Friday night and obtained 70 cents from a jar in the caretaker's quarters, police were informed.
Courthouse to Close.—The Scott county courthouse will be closed all day Monday in observance of Armistice day as a result of action by the board of supervisors.
Elbow Broken — Mrs. A. F. Schmidt, 2727 Scott street, suffered a fracture of her left elbow Saturday night in a fall at her home. The injury was treated at Mercy hospital and she returned to her home.
Meeting Postponed—The meeting of Federal Employes local, No. 15, has been postponed from Monday night to the following Monday at 7:30 p. m. at the Eagles hall. Nominations for officers will be presented at that time and a large attendance is expected.
Leighton Transferred—Roy B. Leighton, 2931 East Locust street, inspector for the army engineers, Rock Island district, has been transferred to the Huntington, Va., district and assigned to inspection duties on the Winfield dam on the Kawawha river.
Cheats Hotel; Sentenced—Thomas R. Atkins, charged with defrauding the St. James hotel to the extent of $44.18 by failure to pay a bill, was sentenced Saturday to serve 30 days in the county jail after he was unable to pay a fine of $100 and costs imposed in police court.
Officers Installed — Mrs. Yulan Hanrahan, past state president of the Iowa Veterans of Foreign Wars, served as installing officer at the installation of officers of John H. Kemble auxiliary, Muscatine. Mrs. Charles Spalding, Davenport, assisted in the installation ceremony.
Thieves Busy — Thieves who chose to work at the Lend-a-Hand club Friday night when a group of physicians were attending a meeting, stole overcoats belonging to Drs. L. A. Block and L. F. Sullivan and hats belonging to Dr. John I. Marker and Dr. F. O. Burk.
Suits Dismissed—Mortgage foreclosure suits brought by Henry William Eggers, represented by Jebens & Butenschoen, against W. T. Kepler, and others, and by the Northwest Davenport Savings bank receiver, represented by John Weir, against Otto Riepe, and others, have been dismissed as the result of satisfactions of the indebtedness.
Order in Curtis Case — Judge Charles A. Dewey of the U. S. district court has issued an order claiming full and complete jurisdiction in the reorganization case of the Curtis Co., Inc., and the Curtis Sash and Door Co., Clinton, intervening debtor, and ordering settlement in accordance with the submitted plan. He gives debtors 30 days to comply with the order, after which they move for a final order in the case.
Files in Bankruptcy—Ben H. Kelley, constable, 1417 High street, has filed a petition in bankruptcy in the U. S. district court. The petition schedules indebtedness of $18,714.81, of which $9,153.40 is on a judgment held by the receiver of the Home Savings bank and $8,417.50 on a judgment held by the First National bank receiver. No assets are scheduled except $325 for which exemption is claimed.
Calls on Weather—The telephone in the office of Meteorologist T. G. Shipman of the weather bureau in the postoffice building, always busy, rang continuously Saturday morning and nine-tenths of the calls asked for information about weather at Iowa City, the scene of the Iowa-Minnesota football game. To every inquirer Mr. Shipman answered that the light rain was general all over the state and that conditions at Iowa city were the same as at Davenport.
Relatives Sought—Davenport police were asked Saturday to search here for relatives of a man found critically ill in a box car in Grand Rapids, Mich. On his person was found a prayer book bearing the name of Joseph LaVelle or LaBelle and the address 1427 Marquette street, as well as the date Jan. 24, 1935. Authorities said they have not been able to find anyone who is related to or knows the man, but they will welcome any information to assist in identifying him.
THR UWINDOW; ANKLE INJURED
Marvin Stevens in Hospital after Companion Shoves Him.
Marvin Stevens, 16, 1600 East Eleventh street, incurred a severe laceration of his left leg just above the ankle at 10:30 Saturday night when a companion, one of a group of youths with whom Stevens was a member, shoved him against a plate glass window in the entrance to the J & R Auto Supply store, 317 Brady street. Stevens was taken in an ambulance to Mercy hospital.
Witnesses said the youths were pushing and shoving each other as they loitered in the doorway. Stevens fell against the window which was shattered. A piece of heavy glass fell on his leg, cutting a deep gash in his lower left calf.
After Stevens was hurt, his companions carried him to a nearby service station and then left before police arrived. Officers said they will obtain names of Stevens' companions before determining whether or not they will take any action against them.
Winter Due For Bow In Area Today
Rain or Snow and Much Colder Is Forecast For Tonight.
Winter weather is scheduled for a bow in the Davenport area late today, according to the forecast issued Saturday night by the Davenport office of the weather bureau. Rain or snow, and much colder were the highlights of the forecast.
The temperature was expected to be moderate this morning, and to start falling late today, reaching a below-freezing reading sometime tonight. Monday is expected to be fair and continued cold.
Approximately one-third inch of rain had fallen by 10:30 Saturday night when the last weather office reading was made. The low temperature Saturday was 48 degrees, reached in the early morning. It climbed slowly during the day, and at 10:30 at night was 53.
BELVIDERE AND 4 OTHER PLACES CLOSED BY COPS
Failure to Get Permits; Ordinance Violations Charged.
The Belvidere, road house on Ninth street in South Rock Island, and four other places were closed about 11 p. m. Saturday by Rock Island police. Failure to obtain new permits and violations of the city ordinance covering taverns were charged.
The four others are the Ace of Clubs, Fifth avenue, between Twenty-sixth and Twenty-seventh streets; Rene De Clerk, Fifth avenue, between Forty-fifth and Forty-sixth streets; O'Deal Oliver, Forty-sixth street and Railroad avenue, and Frank Gossen, Twenty-sixth street and Fifth avenue.
The five places were closed about 11 p. m. Saturday by Rock Island police.
MAN STRUCK BY AUTO; INJURIES BELIEVED SLIGHT
Mike Ruplinger, 227 1/2 West Second street, was injured shortly after midnight this morning when he was struck by an automobile at the intersection of Fourth and Iowa streets. He was taken to the police station, and then to Mercy hospital for examination of his injuries.
Floyd Heaney, 305 West Sixth street, was the driver of the car that struck Ruplinger.
