RIVERSIDE. The Case of Mrs. H. M. Post Notes. RIVERSIDE, Dec. 24.-A few days ago Mrs. H. L. Post was arreated at Colton and taken to San Diego on a charge of defrauding her creditors. She resided in this city about three years ago, and many "tradespeople have 8 lingering remembrance of her to the extent of several hundred dollars, which she neglected to pay when ahe took her departure for pastures new. San Diego and Riverside business men are not alone in the waii that has ascended heavenward for the settlement of obligations. News comes from Homet that several firms in that town and San Jacinto suffered. She arrived in that town and proceeded to buy of all the firms she could get merchandise from on credit, and opened an eating house. The business prospered for some time, but finally it almost stopped. She gave out that her mother was not expected to live in the east and that a telegram had been received calling her to the bedside. She packed her trunk with articles that were of the most value and departed, followed by her husband. At Colton a cold-hearted constable met her and kindly eecorted her to San Diego, where she will have to answer the charge of obtaining money under false pretensee. BRIEFS. A. G. Munn of the San Jacinto Register was on the streets yesterday. Charlte M. Aitkens was over from San Bernardino yesterday. Brad Morse, county assessor, ie in San Diego. Andrew J. Connor. receiver of the consolidated bank of San Diego, has commenced action in the superior court against Joseph Jarvia and Mary A. Jarvie to recover $8677 and interest from June 2, 1893. The rain of yesterday will make a fast track for the races New Year's day. The programme ia the best ever advertised and a large attendance is expected.

Last Monday evening an informal hop was given at the Arg,le. Thirty couples were present and participated in the usual enjoyments till midnight. Next Monday evening the Argyle Whist club will entertain. The fol owing overland arrivals have registered at the Argyle: W. D. McIntyre and wife, Glencoe, Ont.: Miss Blossom McRae, Glencoe, Ont.; J. E. Sickles, Valleyfield, Que. bec: Fred A. Pride and wife, Minneapolis; Leonard J. Willson, Boston, Mass Michael Muchnick, Philadelphia, Pa. HOTEL DEL CORONADO. James F. Kenealy, Los Angeles, is a guest here. Reed Jones of San Francisco is a guest at the hotel Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Burke, Oak Park, III., are late arrivals Mrs. Frederick Stone and maid and Philip B. Stone are here from Boston. Capt. and Mrs. Charles T. Hinde of Coronado are now in San Francisco. Gus S. Schultz, a New York artist of note, is again a guest at the hotel. Mr. and Mrs. James Moses and the Misses Moses of New York city are recent arrivals here. Cleveland, O., is represented at the hotel by Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Worthington and Miss E. B. Worthington. Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Platt and Miss Georgia Fellows of Englewood, N. J., are new comers at the hotel. Christian Gross, a Philadelphia capitalist, has purchased lots on the beach and will shortly build R residence. Receiver of the Consolidated Bank A. J. O'Connor of San Diego was at the hotel yesterday, accomp nied by Mr. O'Connor. A prominent par of St. Paul society people that arrived at the hotel recently were Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Gregg and Mrs. R. L. Hardenberg George A. Loud, general manager of the Au Sable and Northwestern railroad, is a guest at the hotel, accompanied by Mrs. Loud and Mrs. Glennis of Au Sable, Mich. Mr. and Mrs. F. H. White and son of Milwaukee have joined Mr. and Mrs. C. Ludington at the hotel. Mr. White is a sister of Mr. Ludington and daughter of Ex-Governor Ludington of Wisconsin. Mr. and Mrs. Henry W. Wellington, Miss M. S. Wellington. Miss A. C. Wellington and maid and H. W. Wellington, jr., of Newton, Mass., arrived with the Raymond excursion. Mr. Wellington, sr., who is 82 years of age, has the honor of being the oldest guest in the house. The firtt water polo contest of the season OC. curred last evening at the Coronado bath house. It was between the Coronado Athletic club and a picked team. The hotel orchestra was in attendance, and an exciting war was waged between the white and red caps. A Boston party now enjoying life at the hote[ comprises Mrs. T. B. William Miss L. B. Williams. Miss Ruth Williams Dr. Sarah L. Windsor, Mrs George E. Francis and Miss R. K. Francis. These ladies are members of the Ray. mond excursion which arrived on Saturday, and are busy seeing all the points of interest in this vicinity. E. Vassalle Hartford of Orange, N. J., is here from India, where he sattacked with jungle fever. Mr. Hartford is so charmed with Coronado that he will remain at the hotel during the coming six months to recuperate. He has a finely cultivated voice and is a skilled violinist, adding much to the pleasure of the household. AT THE CITY HOTELS. James B. Stokes of San Francisco is at the Arcade hotel. S. M. Stern, a prominent attorney of Spokaue, Wash, is stopping at the Westminster. Edgar Wilson, wife and son of Boise City, Idaho, are domiciled at Hotel St. Angelo. Lieut. J. H. Hartman and wife, Mrs. W. H. Osborn of Fort Grant, Ariz., are at the Arcade hotel, O. F. Zurn and family, H. N. Conrad, F. P Conrad of Philadelphia are at the Arcade hotel. Mrs. Hester A. Harland, formerly with the world's fair commission, is stopping at Hotel St. Angelo. Miss M. Griffith of Orrville, O., is again in Los Angeles for the winter, and is located at Hotel St. Angelo. Tony Oakes, the famous horseman. all around sport and road house proprietor, is at the St. Elmo hotel in this city. Mrs. J. P. Jones and daughter, Mrs. A. H. Hamilton and danghter, Mrs. H. M. Gorman. Mi-s Bessie Gorman, Santa Monica: Schuyler Cole, Colegrove; G. S. Norvill San Diego; C. E. Hogard, San Francisco, are registered at the Arcade hotel. The Rt. Rev. Bishop Goodsell of San Francisco preached in this city Sunday morning at the East Los Angeles M. E. church. The bishop has appointed Rev. Dr. W. R. Goodwin of this city to be pastor of the California-street M. E. church, in San Francisco. This is the finest Methodist church in that city. Dr. Goodwin left Thursday for his new charge, and will ar. range to have his family follow him a week later. PERSONAL NOTES. W. A. Batts, a Redlands merchant, is at the Ramona. W. E. Kellner, an Ontario merchant, and his ister, Mrs. H. Kifear of Ontario, are guests at the Ramona. General E. "E. Hewitt was able to take a short wa k yesterday and is convalescing rapidly from his severe illness, Abbot Kinney will go to Sacramento soon, where he is to represent Los Angeles county at the good roads convention. W. W. Jones, the Welch consul at San Francisco and a well-known capitalist, is in the city, the guest of the Llewellyn brothers. The veteran manager, William Nannary, who brought W. E. Sheridan, Rose Wood, Isabelle Morris and others to this city, is in charge of Dailey's Stock company. S. B. Hall, one of the leading merchants of Redondo, is in the city. Mr. Hall has varied interests in that thriving town and takes great pride in its advancement. Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Saunders and Miss Grace N. Saunders of Chicago are stopping at the Ramona. |They are tourists and intend to "do" Southern California thoroughly before returning east. John M.
