# JAYHAWKER JOTS One of the latest runs on a Kansas bank occurred at Winfield not long ago. An automobile attempted to run up the front steps of the First National building. The Greek laborers working on a pipe line near Iola are coming in for comment now because they eat 400 loaves of bread each day. Their number is such as to make this a trifle less than a loaf of bread for each man. Owing to a leak in the boiler at the light plant there has been no light in La Crosse for a couple of nights. The La Crosseites get consolation because they recall that Hays City was hung up in the same way not long ago. About $12,000 has lately been paid out on land near Fredonia, to the owners thereof, as annual rental on account of oil and gas leases. The Altoona Portland Cement company have contributed about $2,000 on leases north and northeast of the city. Norton is feeling a bit wealthy these days. The police made a raid on a poker game the other night and arrested seven men. Each of them was fined $25 which was paid into the coffers of the city. It is presumed that the gentlemen engaged in the game were of the prominent men of the town because their names do not appear in the write-up of the raid in the local paper.
