DES MOINES, Aug. 15.-It is erported here that the Central Trust Co., of Illinois was at the request of the Chicago Great Western railroad, made receiver for the Agar Packing Co., of this place last Saturday. But little is known of the case here. The assets of the company are $400,000; liabilities about the same.

In Hands of Receiver. Des Moines, Aug. 15.-Special: It is reported here that the Central Trust Co., of Illinois, was at the request of the C. & N. W. STATE RECOVERS $1,060,667 DEPOSIT PAYMENT OF $192,217 TO THE STATE TREASURER, CLOSES ACCOUNT IN 3 BANKS. FROM BONDING COMPANIES Four Nationally Known Surety Concerns Involved-Treasurer Johnson Had $7,818 In Another Closed Bank. (By The Associated Press.) DES MOINES, Ia., Dec: 28.-State Treasurer R. E. Johnson today recelved the final payment of $192,217.83 due the state as interest and replacement under a surety bond of public money on deposit with the Central Trust company when it closed its doors. The bonding company now assumed the state's claim against the bank's receiver. The payment restores to the state all the $1,060,667 43 on deposit in three Des Moines banks when Treasurer Johnson assumed office, with the exception of $7,818.75 remaining unpaid from the Mechanics Savings bank. The state had $500,000 on deposit with the Iowa Loan and Trust company which closed week ago today, and will be reimbursed under the Lovrien Brookhart bank guaranty law as the replacement funds permits. The bonding companies that paid the state today were the National Surety company. the Fidelity and Casualty company, the Continental Casualty company and the Southern Surety company.

ALTA SETTLES SUIT WITH CLOSED BANK RECEIVER Alta, Ia., Sept 15.-Special: The town of Alta has made settlement with L. Andrew, receiver of the Central Trust company, Des Moines. of suit brought on a series of war rants issued seven years ago to pay for preliminary survey for paving At the time the sewer system was put in the engineers having charge of the sewer construction surveyed the town for paving on contract calling for per cent of the estimated cost for services. The town allowed a bill of $4,800 for the preliminary and warrants issued, an acting presiding at the meeting when the bill was and signing the warrants. Later the town repudiated the warrants, they had been illegally issued, and also the survey had been found to be seriously defective. The amount of the debt. $7,000, has been stttled for $1,000 cash. (Special to The Journal Sioux Rapids, la., Sept. 15.-Most women would consider taking a well earned rest after raising family of .13 children, but Mrs. O. A. Osmund son, Sioux Rapids, took up carpet weaving to fill up time formerly devoted to her babies. Twenty years ago her husband made a loom for her and she has woven many hundred yards of carpet. Since room size car. pets went out of fashion she weaves rag rugs and sills portieres. Mrs. was born in Forsund, Norway, in 1852. She now is 76 years old, but is as active as many women of 50. FAIR IN OSCEOLA COUNTY EARNED PROFIT OF $2,000 Sibley, Ia., Sept. 15.-Special: Now that the Osceola county fair is over, the finances have come out on the plus side of the ledger, with a net profit of nearly $2,000. The gross total receipts of the fair were about $11,000. not counting state aid money. The total premiums this year will foot up to nearly $3,500. Hospers Bank Paying Out. Hospers, Ia., Sept. 15.-Special: The Citizens bank, Hospers, will pay another 10 per cent dividend, making total of 70 per cent, John Versteeg has announced, with more to follow Mattresses later.
