Reorganization Was Imposs bie. NORTH PLATTE, Neb., March 12.-(Special Telegram.)-The efforts of the directors and stockholders of the North Platte National bank, which has been in the hands of a receiver for several months, have proven unsuccessful, so far as concerns reorganizing and reopening the bank. Receiver Doolittle will commence tomorrow and proceed to close up the affairs of the bank as soon as possible. It is thought that depositors will be paid in full.

The plaintiff sues to recover on a deposit of $331 made by the city treasurer of North Platte in the bank before the institution closed and became insolvent.

LATER NEWS. In the senate, on the 16th. no seesion for the regular transaction of business WHM held. When the body convened at 12 o'clock it proceeded at once to the hall of the house of representatives to attend as a body the funeral of the late Representative Nelson Dingley. At one o'clock the senate returned to its chamber. Jonathan Ross, appointed by Gov. Smith of Vermont, to fill the unexpired term of the late Senator Morrill, was sworn in, In the and the senate adjourned house no business was transacted beside attending the funeral obsequies of the late Representative Dingley. It is practically certain that the consolidation of the chewing gum business recently announced will be brought about next spring. The plan is to purchase the chewing gum factories by a corporation with a capital stock amounting to $15,000,000 and backed by the American Trust and Savings bank of Chicago and the Manhattan Trust Co. of New York, to be formed for that purpose. On the 16th the comptroller of the currency declared the following dividends in favor of the creditors of insolvent national banks: Five per cent. in favor of the depositors of the North Platte national bank. of North Platte, Neb., and 20 per cent. to the creditors of the insolvent First national bank of Emporia, Kas., on or before Februt ary 15. The statedepartment at Washington has instructed the United States embassy in Berlin to bring about the discharge from the German army of William Brier, of Cineinnati, who was impressed contrary to treaty provisions. : The Bennington sailed from Honolulu, on the 17th. for Guam, in accordance with the orders of the navy department. On the way over she will stop at Wake island and take possession of it for use as a cable station. Impressive funeral obsequies in the hall of the house of representatives, on the 16th, were held over the remains of the late Representative Nelson Dingley, of Maine. A strong earthquake shock at Santander, Spain, one o'clock in the morning of the 16th. threw the inhabitants of the city into a panie. A number of windows were broken. I Gen. Guy V. Henry, governor of Porto Rico, promised certain concessions to the councilmen of San Juan, and the latter thereupon have withdrawa their resignations.
