Appeals for Protection Of Coal Miners NEW PHILADELPHIA, O., April 7. โ€” (AP) โ€” An appeal for protection on behalf of former employes of the Wolfford Brothers mine near Newport was made today to Tuscarawas county officials by Ivan Wolfford, operator of the now closed mine. Wolfford said that union pickets threatened to throw the men into the creek if they attempt to leave the mining camp again. The miners walk to Uhrichsville, six miles from the mine, for their food rations. Sheriff Harry C. Smith referred Wolfford to the Mill township trustees in answer to the request. Six families still remain in company houses despite the shutdown March 21, following disagreement between the operators and the union. CONVICTED OF FRAUD TOLEDO, O., April 7. โ€” (AP) โ€” Walter J.
