DEPOSITORS STOP RUN ON WILLIMANTIC BANK
WILLIMANTIC, Conn, Sept 23βThe run on the Willimantic Trust Company, which started at the close of banking hours Monday and continuing through yesterday, was believed at the close of banking hours this afternoon by Treasurer Herbert W. Huber and the directors of the bank to have petered out. The number of depositors drawing out funds during the forenoon had greatly fallen off, and this afternoon conditions apparently were back to normal. A number of depositors who withdrew funds yesterday, this afternoon redeposited their savings in the bank.
Unlimited assistance to the local bank to meet any frantic run was received both yesterday and today, two Hartford banks sending unsolicited deposits totaling $110,000 today. The bank officials have an investigation under way as to the person or persons who fomented the rumors that started the run on the bank.
Close to $40,000 was withdrawn during the run.

WILLIMANTIC MAN IS UNDER ARREST Accused of Starting Run on Trust Company Willimantic, Conn., Sept. 26 (/P) Herbert O. Ladd, 34, a carpenter, was arrested last night by State officers and in police court today he was charged with having made "derogatory statements" as to the condition and affairs of the Willimantic Trust Co. The arrest is a sequel to a run on the savings department on Monday and Tuesday of this week, influenced, it was stated at the time by the directors and officers, by false reports as to the solvency of the institution. Ladd through his counsel, Samuel B. Harvey asked for a week's continuance which was granted and a bond of $1,000 was provided by his father, Edward Ladd. The arrest is said to have been brought about by the state bank examiner on the basis of an inquiry started by the bank officers upon recurrence of reports that the bank was in distress. Like reports were circulated in August but these did not trouble the bank. Early this week depositors headed mostly by employes of the Rossia Velvet Co., drew out something like $25,000. The run was over on Tuesday afternoon and business is now normal. Ladd had been employed by the contractor who was making an addition to the Rossia mills.

CHARGE CAUSING RUN ON A BANK
Evidence Insufficient to Convict Defendant
Special Dispatch to the Globe
WILLIMANTIC, Conn, Oct 3βHerbert O. Ladd, a carpenter, who was charged in Police Court this morning with making derogatory reports concerning the financial standing of the Willimantic Trust Company, pleaded not guilty. Ladd was accused of making statements that caused the run on the trust company on Sept 21 and 22.
The evidence introduced for the prosecution was not, in the opinion of Prosecuting Attorney Harry S. Gaucher, strong enough to convict, and he asked for a nol pros of the case. This was objected to by Samuel B. Harvey, attorney for the defendant, who demanded a discharge of his client.
The attorneys argued over the matter and it was agreed by Judge Frank H. Foss to continue the case for two weeks and that if, at the end of that time, the State had no additional evidence to introduce, the court would order a discharge of the defendant.

Bank runs are almost always and everywhere a deterioration of bank fundamentals.
But not for you.
You are the measure-zero exception: great fundamentals, solid bank, and yet the Diamond Dybvig fairy spread its rumor. Depositors woke up. Your collateral was not prepositioned. The Clearinghouse had it for you.
