State Shuts Bank at Granton, Wis. Frozen Assets Given as Cause of Run on Institution GRANTON, Wis.β€”The Farmers State bank of Granton was closed Monday by two examiners of the state banking commission after a run of two weeks, during which depositors withdrew $5,500. Frozen assets was given as the cause. The bank's trouble started two months ago when Wilson Mallory, assistant treasurer of the bank and treasurer of the town of York, died, and a shortage was found in his books of the town. Depositors then lost confidence in the bank, and about two weeks ago the run started. P. J. Kemmeter is president of the bank, a $25,000 institution. Scott Davis, cashier, resigned two weeks ago, but the resignation has not yet taken effect.

STATE PERMISSION ASKED TO OPEN BANK GRANTON, Wis. Six men, selected by 300 farmers and merchants, have been instructed to go to Madison and seek permission for the selling of stock in a new bank proposed here to replace the Farmers' State bank closed two months ago. The state banking commission took over the Farmers' State bank here after was found that the treasurer of the town of York, who was cashier of the bank, was short $13,000. When the official died a run started on the bank and the depositors' list dropped from 250 to 50 in few days. The six men who will apply for permission for the new bank are: Henry Williams, L. J. Bluett, Fred Hart, Fred Ryler, G. H. Hrach and Herman Braatz.
