Maryland Town Now Without Bank MIDDLETOWN, Md., Oct. 8. The Middletown Savings Bank today is in the hands of State Bank Commissioner George W. Page, after having failed to open its doors yesterday. According to its last statement the bank had total resources of $1,041,443 and deposits of $861,940. The closing of the bank left the town without banking facilities, the Valley Savings Bank having been placed in the hands of receivers September 3.

TEN MARYLAND BANKS HAVE NOW REOPENED Only Eight Institutions in State Are Now Closedβ€”Another Reopening Planned. Special Dispatch to The Star. BALTIMORE, August 13.β€”Ten of the eighteen banks in Maryland which closed their doors since January, 1931, have reopened. The eleventh is expected to do so September 1, according to officials of the State bank commissioner's office. The prospect for another institution opening its doors soon is said to be good. Banks which have reopened are: State Bank of Trappe, opened as a branch of the Farmers & Merchants' Bank of Easton; Detour Bank, Commercial Bank of Frederick, Hancock Bank, Queenstown Bank, Middletown Savings Bank, Provident Bank at Preston, Farmers' Bank of Somerset County at Marion Station and the First State Bank, Grantville. The bank expected to reopen September 1 is the Savings Bank at Williamsport.
