SEEK BACKING FOR NEW HARTFORD CITY BANK Hartford City, Ind., February campaign for the sale of stock for the organization of new na tional bank here, to succeed the First National, which has been operating since last March on stricted basis, was begun Friday The plan under which the new bank will be formed calls for capitalization of $100,000, with surplus of $20,000. BANK RECEIVER TAKES CHARGE J. H. Heller Named to Serve at Hartford City. Hartford City, Ind., May 24.-John H. Heller, of Decatur, today took charge of the First National Bank in this city as federal receiver. The bank will be closed for a few days, during which time the books will be checked and a receipt given to Earl Reasoner, who has served as conservator since March 28, 1933. The order for the appointment of a receiver came from the office of the comptroller of currency in Washington. Notes Reduced $66,000. Following the bank moratorium of last March, the bank was placed on restricted basis and later the conservator was named. During the year that has passed since that time, all bills payable, totalling $38,000, have been paid and the notes due the bank have been reduced by $66,000. The bank has deposits of $243,000. Liquidation by the receiver will be started as soon as possible. Word has been received here that the North Central Association has again accredited the Hartford City high school for another year. Commencement Tonight. Fred G. Bale, of Columbus, O., will be the speaker at the annual commencement exercises of the Hartford City High School here tomorrow evening The exercises will be held at the high school gym. The graduating exercises for the Holy Family school were held here this evening. Dr. Royal J. Dye was the speaker at the Christian Church this evening He is a pioneer missionary from the Belgian Congo district of Africa. The David Townsend will was filed for probate in the Blackford Circuit Court here today. M. C. Townsend, a son, lieutenant governor, is named as executor. The estate goes to the widow. County Funds Recovered. County Auditor Luther Speidel today announced that all county funds, totalling $13,029.53, which were in the First National Bank at Montpelier when that institution was closed last year, have been from the bonding company and the state sinking fund. The city council, at special meeting this evening. heard further discussion of the proposed sewage disposal plant. The funeral of Mrs. Martha Long will be conducted at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Church of God in Roll. Floyd Lewis has purchased the Frank Howell grocery store in North Cherry street. A number of people from this city will go to Marion tomorrow afternoon to attend the funeral of John A. Jones, political leader. Mrs. William Glancy, of this city, is a daughter.,

FILE FORMAL PROTEST IN PUBLIC-FUND CASE Hartford City, Ind., Dec. 10.-The protests of Blackford county units of government regarding the settlement of $26,000 worth of public funds on deposit in the First National Bank here when it closed February 27, formally reached the Blackford circuit court here today with the filing of petitions by John Heller, bank receiver. December 19 was fixed as the date for the hearing. The units are seeking to collect the entire amount from the state sinking fund. HUGH MADDOX ILL Hartford City, Ind., Dec. 10. HARTFORD CITY TOT FOUND DEAD Geraldine Redding Is Accidentally Suffocated. Hartford City, Ind., Dec. 10.—Geraldine Lee Redding, aged five months, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Redding, of this city, was found dead in her crib by her mother at 8 o'clock this morning. Dr. W. W. Ayres, county coroner, who conducted an investigation, found that death was due to accidental suffocation. The child is survived by her parents and a twin sister. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Michaels are the paternal grandparents and Mr. and Mrs. Ben Stone the maternal grandparents. The funeral will be held from the Stone home, in East Grant street, at 2 p. m. Wednesday, in charge of the Rev. Vincent McGlynn. Burial will be made in the I. O. O. F. Cemetery. Want Money Status. The matter of determining the status of approximately $26,000 in public funds, held in the First National Bank here when that institution went into the hands of a receiver on February 27 last, was brought formally into the Circuit Court today with the filing of a petition by the bank receiver, John Heller, of Decatur, asking a determination. The matter was set down for December 19. Five governmental units in the county are asking to have the sums paid in full from the state sinking fund. The funeral of Mrs. Ada Belle Wilson, 65, wife of Albert Wilson, who died Saturday in Fort Wayne, will be held at the home of a sister, Mrs. Harriett Gibson, here Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, in charge of the Rev. Charles Welsh. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson formerly lived in Hartford City. Fire Damages Home. The home of James Hornbaker was badly damaged by fire of an unknown origin early this morning. None of the family was present at the time and the fire had gained considerable headway before it was discovered. Four rooms were destroyed. Paul Discol's orchestra will play for the Phi Delta Kappa Christmas and anniversary dance to be held here on December 21. The first meeting of the English classes of the adult EEP will be held at the high school Tuesday evening. Classes in the subject will meet on Tuesday and Friday evenings. Miss Eleanor Waters is to be the teacher. Herbert M. Gaines, of this city, has been re-elected commander of Converse Lucas Camp No. 90, Spanish-American War veterans. JUDGMENT AWARDED TO BANK RECEIVER John Heller, receiver for the First National Bank of Hartford City, was given judgment for $223.60 against the estate of Patrick B. Smith, on a promissory note, in superior court Wednesday. The case was brought here on a change of venue from Blackford Circuit Court.
