ELLIOTT ELLIOTT-PONTOPPIDAN LUTHERAN PARISH Sunday school and Bible classes at both churches at 9:45 a. m. Divine worship at the Elliott church Sunday forenoon at 11. A joint Luther League program will be given at the Pontoppidan church Sunday evening at 7:30. All are welcome. This is the first program of the season. Mid-week prayer services Wednesday evening at 7:30 at the Elliott church. Tuesday evening, Oct. 3, Mr. Gerald Ranaas Giving will give a lecture in the Pontoppidan church on "The Oriental People." He will also show slides. Meeting begins at 7:30. No admission. A collection will be taken. On Friday forenoon, Oct. 6th, a Foreign Mission meeting will begin in the Elliott church, with an opening sermon at 11 a. m. by Rev. Nels Kluntvedt. It will continue Friday, Saturday and Sunday. On Monday evening, Oct. 9th, the annual Fall Mission Festival of the Pontoppidan church will begin, with a sermon by Rev. C. M. Hanson, of Morris, Ill. The Confirmation class meets on Saturday morning at 9:30. J. M. Wick, Pastor. BARTELSON - McGUIRE Miss Irene McGuire, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Grotis McGuire, of Elliott, and Vernon E. Bartelson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Anna Bartelson, of Paxton, were united in marriage at 9:30 Saturday night at the Lutheran parsonage in Paxton with Rev. Oscar Purn officiating. The single ring ceremony was performed. Miss Thelma Fretty, of Elliott, and Clemens Bartelson, of Gibson City, cousin of the groom, were the attendants. The bride wore a dress of pansy petal blue, with accessories to match. She attended the Drummer High School and was an active worker in the Christian church of Gibson City. The bride, who is a young lady of culture and refinement, has a very large circle of warm and admiring friends. The groom is a member of the Lutheran church in Paxton. He is a young man of splendid qualities and has for the last year been employed on a farm by Erick Tweet. After the ceremony the bridal party was entertained at a midnight luncheon at the home of the groom's mother, southwest of Paxton. The happy couple left for Chicago where they will be the guest of relatives and friends for an indefinite visit. The many friends extend their heartiest congratulations and best wishes to the couple. which is always so much enjoyed by the folks of this community. Osman Anderson was elected president; John Anderson vice president, and Mrs. Everett Vaughn, secretary. MARTIN APLAND AND FAMILY HERE SUNDAY Mr. and Mrs. Martin Apland and family, of near Loda, were Sunday dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Anderson and family. While here they called on their old friends and neighbors. Next spring Mr. Apland and family will move from Loda to John Hanson's farm southeast of Paxton. CHICAGO MAN APPOINTED ELLIOTT BANK RECEIVER Mr. H. H. Lane, who was recently appointed receiver for the Elliott State Bank, has been removed by State Auditor of Public Accounts Barrett. A Chicago, Cook county, man has been placed in charge. Four men and two lady stenographers were here the first of the week at the bank. MISS HATTEBERG, PUPIL OF MISS WICK, GAVE RECITAL Miss Margaret Hatteberg, a pupil of Miss Judith Wick, was presented in recital on Saturday afternoon at her home near Elliott. There were about twenty-five guests present who were delighted with Miss Hatteberg's piano numbers and the splendid progress that she has made in the study of music under the instruction of her talented teacher. MR. HARPER ATTENDED STAG PARTY AT PAXTON Charles Harper was in Paxton on Tuesday evening where he attended a stag party in honor of Sidney Mercer, New York sports writer with the Hearst chain of metropolitan newspapers, at the home of Harold Steevns. Messrs. Harper and Mercer were school friends during the very early years of their lives in Paxton. ATTENDED MELVIN TOURNEY Among those from here who attended the finals of the Melvin softball tourney on Monday evening were O. J. Hatteberg, John Merton Hatteberg, Charles Miller, Durward Wiles, Ollie Hill, Severt Lunde, Joseph Berger, Laurence Underwood, Osman Anderson and Herman Williams and family. MOTHERS' CLUB ELECTS On Friday afternoon the Mothers' Club of Elliott held their first meeting of the new year at the school house. At this time new officers were elected. They are: President, Mrs. Glenn Barrow; vice president, Mrs. C. E. Okey; treasurer, Mrs. Henry Pfoff, and secretary, Mrs. Elva Firmes. DICK PUNKE FIRST TO SHUCK HIS CORN Dick Punke started to shuck his corn on Tuesday, Sept. 26, which is almost a record in these parts. The hot windy days during the past fortnight have put the corn in this section out of the way of the frost and the golden grain is now ready to be harvested. MR. FRIESE WAS HERE Louis Friese, of Farmer, S. D., arrived in Elliott on Friday to visit with his sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Punke and family. On Sunday Mr. Punke and family and Mr. Friese motored to Stewardson, Ill., where the former visited with home folks for a couple of weeks.
