HARTFORD CITY JAIL DELIVERY No Trace of Gar Williams, Held as Lunatic. Hartford City, Ind., Oct. 23.-Tonight no trace had been found of Gar Williams, 43, of Montpelier, who escaped from the Blackford County jail some time between last midnight and this morning. Williams gained his release by taking the lock off the cell block in the jail. He hid the lock in the bedclothes of his cell, but no trace has been found of the screw driver he must have used in taking out the screws that hold the lock. The fact that he had escaped was not discovered until his breakfast was taken into the cell house this morning. Alleged Head of Cattle Thieves. Williams had served twice in the Easthaven Asylum at Richmond. Recently he was released there as cured, but was picked up again. He is alleged to have been the head of gang of cattle thieves in the northern part Other members of the alleged gang are now serving time. Williams esr caped a similar sentence on the grounds of insanity. It is believed that he may have gone to Pittsburgh, where he has relatives. Quiz Suspected Trio. Mr. and Mrs. James Glover and Mrs. Arthur Croy were questioned today in connection with the escape. It is the theory of the authorities that they may have smuggled a screw driver into the jail when they came to call upon Art Croy. who was taken to the state prison yesterday to serve term for robbery It is believed that Croy might have been taken away too soon for the jail attempt to be made by him. STOCKHOLDER OF BANK HELD LIABLE FOR LEVY Blackford Circuit Court Decides Full Assessment Legal. Bu United Press HARTFORD CITY, Ind., Nov. 16. -That a bank stockholder is liable to a par assessment on the amount of stock that he owns was the decision of Judge Victor Simmons in Blackford circuit court here, in the case of Robert Simison and others against Addie Byall and other stockholders, directors and officers of the closed Blackford County bank. Plaintiffs sought an assessment of stockholders and appointment of a receiver to assume charge of the assets. Judge Simmons' ruling specifically held that W. C. Horn, a stockholder, was liable to an assessment and awarded a judgment against him for $800, representing eight shares of stock. The bank now is in the process of liquidation. Two. suits before the Indiana supreme court concern liability of bank stockholders to an assessment. One is an appeal from the Wells circuit court holding that stockholders are not liable to assessment and the other is an appeal from the Wabash circuit court to the contrary.
