MEMORIAL RITES AT W'LIAMSPORT WILLIAMSPORT, May (Special) offices in the court house will be closed on Memorial day, Tuesday Claims against the county must be filed on Monday, May 29. Flags making soldiers' graves available now the court house. The usual Dec. oration day program, with music by the drum speaking, be held here Tues. day. TAX DELINQUENCY County Treasurer Herman E Day has just made a compliation of the delinquent taxes of Warren county. Delinquency for the county is 19 per cent. No town ship has over 30 per cent and the lowest is 10 per cent. The Lions club has nominated officers to voted on June as Follows: President, Earl Hamil ton and Earl Held: first viceDr. E. Ward and M. Leath second John B. Folk and H. H. Young: third vice president, Cecil E. Haupt and M. Herbert S. Cripe: treasurer, John Held. Miss Martha Gregory, daughter County and Mrs. Gregory, will be the only Warren county graduate from Depauw university, June 12, this year. Since floods have receded, and repairs made of damage to roads in Warren county, check-up the costs reveals that this county better than adjoining counties. The county road supervisor reports about 3,000 loads of dirt and stone have been used in making necessary repairs. About 100 men and the fleet of Warren county trucks have been making repairs for the past two weeks. About 2,000 feet levee was washed out in the various townships In the matter of the receivership of the defunct Warren County bank, the court has accepted the resignation the Williamsport State bank, which closed Feb. as receiver, and appointed Ole R. Judy, receiver of the Williamsport State bank, as receiver of the Warren County bank also. Mr. Judy furnished $12,000 bond. EYEBALL REMOVED Cliff Hopper underwent operation for the removal of eyeball at Lake View hospital, Danville. Recently cataract burst, making it nécessary to remove the eyeball. Heischman, 78, died at his home in at a. m. Friday. He had been the village 40 years. His wife died about years ago and he leaves one daughter, Mrs. Everett McAdams, of Indeand grandson. Club to Furnish Milk to Pupils; W'msport News WILLIAMSPORT, Oct. (Spefirst meeting of the season for the Woman's club was held Monday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Henry Chandler, when "President's Day" was observed. An interesting program of current events was given. "Yesterday's Activities" was reviewed by the retiring president, Mrs. H. D. Billings and "Tomorrow's Ambitions' by the new president, Mrs. V. H. Renger; attention was called to the yearbook by the vice-president, Mrs O. M. Leath. Plans. are underway to organize a junior society. The distribution of milk for the undernourished school children, which has been sponsored by the club for the past two years, will be continued. A. Mont Padgitt who was operated on at St. Elizabeth hospital Sept. 23, returned to his home here Tuesday. SURPRISE-GIVEN. A group of 35 friends and relatives surprised D. A. Haupt of near here on the occasion of his birthday. A basket supper was enjoyed and the evening was spent playing cards. Those attending from here were Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Astell, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Owens, and Rufus Haupt. RATS TAKE CHICKS. Rats entered the brooder house belonging to Mr. and Mrs. Paul Bailey and carried off over 100 baby chicks. They entered the building through a small hole above a window and carried the chickens outside and deposited them under the concrete floor of the building. The Methodist church here is using a new plan to pay a church debt. The church, secured by four trustees, owed the defunct Williamsport State bank a note of $1,000. To pay this note, enough members who had deposits in the bank when it closed, wrote checks on those deposits this week to cover this indebtedness. The bank receiver, Ole Judy, has taken the matter under advisement and will determine the legality of such a procedure. TEACHER ILL. Miss) Pauline Reed, local school music and art instructor, remained quite ill at her home in Attica. Mr. and Mrs. Martin Dannecker of Schenectady, N. Y., attended the funeral of Henry Dannecker, Tuesday. Hope Hirlinger accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Dannecker here for visit with Fred and Dora Hirlinger TO CONVENTION. Mr and Mrs. Cecil E. Haupt and Mr. and Mrs. Sam Cole left for Chicago, Monday to attend the national convention of the American Legion. REALTY TRANSFERS. Senior Class at W'liamsport Is Rehearsing Play WILLIAMSPORT, March 17. (Special-Rehearsais for the senior play at the school gymnasium, which will be given Tuesday night, April 3, are now being held under the supervision Miss Leota Sims, assisted by Miss Pauline Reed. Two new books, "Little Women" and "The Covered Wagon," have been added to the school library from money collected in fines overdue books. from A dance will be held Friday night, March 23, under the auspices of the Legion at their hall here. Music will be furnished by the Melodiers. 29 LAID OFF In accordance with federal orders 29 men in county have been dropped from the CWA. The creditors of the Williamsport State bank are asked to file claims of their savings deposits which were in the bank at the time of closing February 8, 1933. These claims must be filed with the bank receiver, Ole Judy, by April 10. HAS OLD INSTRUMENT Mrs. William Flint, of West Third street, is the owner of rare musical instrumer known as a dulcimer. The instrument was by J. P. Bennett, who lived at the time on Pine creek, near Kramer, and it bears the date February 18, 1895. Mr. Bennett, father of Arthur Bennett, here, made and sold many of the instruments. Mrs. Flint is quite adept on the instrument, which is played with light leatherbound mallets. FIND SNAKES CWA workmen who are engaged in cutting down the road on what is known as Hogback hill, came across a den of snakes. Several of them were killed. ELECTION BOARD Warren county republican chairman, Rue Alaxender, and democratic chairman, Ura Seeger, have been appointed members of the county board of election commissioners. Clerk Eunice Johnson, by virtue of her office, is the third member. Both parties in War- ren- county will each have five delegates to their respective state conventions. An attractive bouquet of flowers was purchased by the courthouse officials and presented to J. W. Franklin, county auditor, a patient at the local hospital, by Clerk Eunice Johnson.
