LAST BLUFFTON BANK IS CLOSED Six Institutions in One Indiana County Shut Within 24 Hours. Associated BLUFFTON, Ind., Feb 14. The Union Savings & Trust company, the only remaining bank in Bluffton, closed its doors this morning after Wednesday. The Farmers Deposit bank of Montpelier, on the Wells-Blackford county line, also closed this morning. said to Wednesday. CLOSED BANKS PLAN TO OPEN Wells County Crisis May Be Eased Next Week. By Times Special BLUFFTON, Ind., Feb. 16.-Wells county's banking crisis may be eased early next week when the Union Savings and Trust Company is expected to open its doors. Five financial institutions in the county closed- during the week. A mass meeting at which all parts of the county was represented was held here Friday night, several speakers expressing confidence that the situation could be relieved. There were indications that the panicky feeling which caused runs is subsiding. The Wells County State bank here was the first to close. Three other banks, which used the local institution for clearing purposes, ceased business the following day. Then the Union Trust and Savings closed as a precautionary measure, after a run had started. The three others closed were at Liberty Center, Petroleum and Uniondale. At the meeting there were indications that the Liberty Center and Uniondale banks also would re-open next week. Liquidation was reported in progress at Petroleum. The audit of the Wells County State bank has not been completed and there is no information available at this time on its condition.

BANK GRANTED RIGHT TO CLOSE Bluffton Institution to Act as Uniondale Trustee. Bluffton, Ind., March 20.-Judge A. W. Hamilton this afternoon granted a petition signed by eighty-four per cent of the stockholders of the Bank of Uniondale asking for the appointment of trustee to liquidate the bank's assets. The Old National Bank of Bluffton was appointed trustee. with bond placed at $25,000 The voluntary petition for liquidation set that the bank's statement showed assets sufficient to pay depositors in full Deposits total approximately $155,000 The directors voted Tuesday night to liquidate, and the bank suspended operations yesterday The state banking department was notified and Thomas D. Barr, deputy state banking commissioner, is having an audit made The bank is capitalized at $10,000 The petition filed for liquidation bore signatures of sixty-five stockholders. Bull Injures Ertel James Ertel residing on the D. W Lesh farm in Rockcreek Township. is recovering from injuries received two days ago when he was attacked by an angry bull. He managed to partially hold it at bay until he was reached by Mr. Lesh. He suffered a broken rib and body bruises. Sheriff Luster Bowman and Chief of Police A. N. Plessinger went to the state penal farm today with two prisoners. Travis McGoldrick and Arnold Peeper. UNIONDALE BANK HEARING TODAY Scheduled Before Judge Decker at Bluffton. Bluffton, Ind., April Decker will hear arguments Thursday in cases involving receiverships for two closed Uniondale banks, the State Bank Uniondale which closed in February, 1929, and Bank of Uniondale, organized in 1929 to succeed the closed state bank, which in turn was closed in 1930. After the Bank Uniondale was closed trustee had charge of its affairs for time, but later Lamm When the private Bank of Uniondale was organized took the assets liabilities of the State Bank of Uniondale, under contract whereby assumed liabilities of the state bank and received with provisions in the contract for demnity event of deficits in the affairs of the state bank. RENAME CRAVEN TO SCHOOL POST Bluffton Board President Is Re-Elected. Bluffton. Ind., June 28.-C. Craven was reappointed a member of the city school board by the city council at the meeting Tuesday night. term of three years. He is concluding his eighth year as member of the board and is president of the board. He was first named in 1925 to fill two years of the unexpired term W. Rogers. resigned. and three reappointments will bring his total service to eleven years at the conclusion of his new term. Other members of the board are Howard Ullman and W. Decree Separates Defunct Banks. Judge John Decker has signed decree for the separation of the assets and liabilities of the two defunct Uniondale banks. the State Bank of Uniondale, the first bank that did business there, and the Bank of Uniondale, organized following the failure of the first bank and taking over the assets and liabilities of the first bank. Separate receivers were appointed about year ago and they filed report on the separation of assets and liabilities last November 15, and the decree of Judge Decker virtually affirms the joint report of the two receivers filed at that time One of the interesting items finds that the State Bank of Uniondale owes the Bank of Uniondale $15,000, the second bank having paid out for the old bank $75,000 and having collected on assets of the old bank only about $60,000. In the report of the there was some doubt about the bank building property and farm of eighty acres. It was found that the bank building the property of the first bank, State Bank of Uniondale and the farm belongs to the Bank of Uniondale. Mrs. Ola Dyar Succumbs. Mrs. Ola May Dyar. 50. wife of Dr. W. Dyar. prominent Ossian physician, died at o'clock this morning at the Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. She had been in poor health number of years and underwent an operation Monday. Death was attributed to coronary thrombosis Surviving are the husband and one son, Dr. E. W. Dyar. Jr., of Indian- apolis; her mother, residing in Illinois; three brothers, Dr. G. Hardin. of Flat Rock, Ill.; R. C. Hardin, of Robinson, Ill.; George Hardin, of Sullivan, and sister. Mrs. Fannie Jones, of Hardinville, Ill. Mrs. Dyar was member of the Ossian Presbyterian Church and of the Eastern Star and Pythian Sisters lodges. Funeral will be held 'clock Friday afternoon at the Ossian Presbyterian Church and burial will be in the Oaklawn Cemetery. Ossian. Hurt in Auto Accident. James Haggard. of Monroe, was taken the county hospital here for treatment for severe lacerations about his face, received last night when the machine of his neighbor, Everett Rice, with whom he was riding, collided with machine driven by Miss Mary Kipfer, east of this city, point on state road 124, near Fairview cemetery. Both machines were damaged considerably, but Rice and Miss Kipfer and her sister, Miss Diana Kipfer, riding with her. escaped injury The accident occurred when Miss Kipfer swerved her machine to miss parked auto along side the highway. Trustee Ira Baker, Harrison Township, has turned over to Prosecuting Attorney George Glass, the names two men residing here, for preparation of affidavits charging them with having procured township aid by fraud. The trustee states that he has knowledge that the two men have been working and drawing wages and at the same time coming to him for fuil allowance from relief funds.
