RUN FORCES SECOND BANK AT DECATUR TO SUSPEND Decatur, Ind., June 14 (AP)β€”The People's Loan and Trust Company of Decatur, capitalized at $25,000, closed its doors at noon today following a special meeting of the board of directors. It was the second bank closing in Decatur in two days, the old Adams County Bank having been closed yesterday. It was the fourth bank failure in the county in two weeks. After the closing of the old Adams County Bank yesterday, a steady run on the Peoples Loan and Trust began and continued this morning until the directors were compelled to close the bank at noon. With the closing, only one bank was left in the city. It is the First National Bank. A serious run on this institution has followed. The following notice was posted on the doors of the Peoples Bank at noon: "Closed for further protection of depositors." The failure leaves four banks in the county. They are the First National Bank of Decatur; the Preble State Bank; the Bank of Berne and the Bank of Geneva. Within the last two weeks the Peoples State Bank of Berne and the Linn Grove Bank, also have been closed. W. Matthias Kirsch is president of the institution closed today. E. E. Bell is vice president, and W. A. Lower is secretary-treasurer. Thomas D. Barr, deputy state banking commissioner, who came here yesterday to take charge of the old Adams County Bank, also took charge of affairs of the Peoples Loan and Trust Company, but declined to make a statement.

MAIL THIEF CONFESSES TAKING $4000 IN LOOT ST. LOUIS, June 14.-(AP)Louis C. Kanuer, Jr., 26, confessed mail box thief, today led postoffice inspectors to west end apartments and lifted door mats and rugs to show them more than 100 rifled letters. He was arrested Thursday when he attempted to cash a stolen check. Kaneur said he had opened about 1000 letters and obtained about $4000 since Christmas. He recently served an 18-months sentence on a similar charge. POSTMASTERS NOMINATED WASHINGTON, June 14-The following postmaster nominations were sent to the senate today: Missouri-Buffalo, Phil Hawkins; Collins, Earnest R. Smith; Eldorado Springs, John M. INDIANA BANK CLOSES DECATUR, Ind., June 14-The People's Loan and Trust company, a $500,000 institution, was forced to suspend business at noon here today following mad run on the bank by depositors alarmed by the failure here yesterday of the $1,150,000 old Adams county bank. The closing of the followed only few hours after the closing of Adams county bank here yesterday and left the First National bank the only banking institution in the city. This bank also expertenced serious run but open and paid depositors as they demanded Within the last two weeks two other in Adams county have closed. They were the Linn Grove State bank and the People's State bank of Illiana State bank here was closed today following the arrest of Fred Bell, former on charge embezzing $25,000.
