BLACKSMITH TAKES "SHOE" OFF A SUFFERING HOG Rockwell City, Ia., Dec. 1.-Special: Ed Saupp, an old time blacksmith of Rockwell City, who has shod hundreds of horses and mules, has been called upon perform unique job-that taking shoe off 150-pound hog. of A farmer living near Rockwell City noticed that one of his hogs refused to eat and appeared sick. He found that the hog had iron band about an inch in width on its hoof, which had swollen so that the band could not be removed without the ald of hack which was put into action by Mr. Saupp. The swelling in the foot had exerted much pressure on the band that before had been completely severed it cracked apart and fell to the floor. MAYOR. MARSHAL AND HIS DEPUTIES SUED FOR $10,000 Cedar Rapids, Ia., Dea Mayor Current, of Mt. Vernon, Ia., F. B. Frick, town marshal, Evans Colton, councilman, and six deputy are to be made defendants in action for $10.000 each, filled by Mrs. Clara Hendrix, owner of the moving picture theater at Mt. Vernon where bloodless riot staged last Sunday night. Notice of the suit was served on the defendants today. Mrs. Hendrix charges that the dewrongfully and illegally entered the theater and destroyed private property. L. D. Hendrix, her of the thea. ter, will be tried this afternoon for violating the Sunday closing law. CROSSING WATCHMAN IS BLAMED FOR TRAGEDY Dec. coroner's Ames, Ia., jury verdict made public here today says: "Negligence of the crossing signal man" was responsible for the Kellogg avenue crossing accident Saturday in which Merrill Hunter, 24-year-old auckilled. Reynolds alleges his incorporated self bargained to pay his individual self $4,000 year, but for the last two years he has only collected about $2,000 annually and he wants what is due him. PIONEER WOMAN OF SOD HOUSE DAYS IS DEAD Rock Valley, Ia., Dec. 1.-Special: Mrs. William Ritcher, a pioneer of sod house days, passed away at her home in Rock Valley after an illness of short duration. She was born in Westphalia, Germany, March 9, 1859, and came to America, locating at Burlington in 1868. She was married to William Ritcher in 1879 and immediately moved to Rock Valley. Five children survive. Railway Wins Stockyard Case. Storm Lake, Ia., Dec. 1.-Special: In written opinion filed with County Clerk J. E. Holden of Buena Vista county, Judge James DeLand declared that the city council of Storm Lake cannot compel the Illinois Central Railway company to remove its stockyards. This famous case began when property owners living near the stockyards appeared before the city council with complaints that they were nuisance. The council ordered removal to some other point. Australians Win Debate. They had come here early in the day on shopping trip. Mr. Green was native of Janesville, Wis. He was 66 years old, and was member of the town council of Van Horne. Bank to Reorganize.
