TIPTON BANK DIVIDEND OF 10 PER CENT Farmers and Merchants Pays $27,400; Track Meets; Brief News. Special to The Democrat Tipton, Ia., March 30.—The depositors of the Farmers and Merchants Savings bank will receive a 10 per cent dividend releasing $27,400.74. This will be the sixth 10 per cent dividend paid since the bank suspended four years ago. Cornell Recital Sunday. The Cornell college string quartet, accompanied by Miss Virginia Hughes, will present a musical program at the Methodist church Sunday evening. The quartet includes Miss Alison Moore, first violin; Miss Margaret Risser, cello; Harold Horn, second violin, and Miss Margaret Lilley, viola. Miss Moore is the daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Otis Moore of south of Tipton. Reject Oil Bids. Nine bids received by the Cedar county supervisors for 5,000 gallons of oil for county road machinery and trucks were rejected. Track Schedule. The track schedule announced by Coach Fred O. Ekstrand follows: April 1—Indoor meet at Iowa City. April 13—Mechanicsville relays. April 18—University high, Iowa City, at Tipton. April 26—County meet, Stanwood. May 4—Conference meet at Mt. Vernon. May 14—Mechanicsville at Tipton. Thirty boys have reported this spring and among promising prospects are Captain Lloyd Leinbaugh, distance man; Wilbur Will and James Casterline, sprint; Lloyd Lind, hurdler, and Cliff Winter, Glenn Stoltenberg, Harry Ailey and Robert Pierce, field men. Canning Projects. The Cedar county relief office has announced plans for community and individual canning projects this season to conserve vegetables grown in subsistence gardens. Relief Rolls Drop. The emergency relief rolls this week showed a decline of 18 men, a reduction of more than 10 per cent. A total of 150 men were employed on eight projects, working 2,104 hours and will receive $760.14. The five stone quarries employed 126, and 16 women were employed in the three sewing rooms.
