Closed Bank Sells Farm At $40 An Acre Special to The Gazette-Republican HOPKINTON, June 13.β€”The 187-acre Marolf farm just west of Hopkinton was sold this week by the receiver of the closed Hopkinton State bank to William Elke of Dyersville for $7,480, an average of $40 an acre. This farm which lies along the Maquoketa river carries a good set of modern buildings. It has been operated for some time as a dairy farm. MECHANICSVILLE, June 13.β€”Six carloads of livestock were shipped from Mechanicsville Wednesday, four loads of which were handled by the shipping association. Among those shipping were H. C. Kiehl and son, Walter, whose carload of cattle averaged 1,386 pounds. George De Forest had twenty-nine head of Herefords that averaged 1,290 pounds. Both bunches of cattle were in unusually good condition, having been on feed all winter. Henry Sievers shipped a carload of hogs which averaged 320 pounds and Leo Crock had a carload which he sold to a local buyer.
