EARLETON, KAS., BANK CLOSES. The Failure Has No Connection With Peoples Bank of Topeka. TOPEKA BUREAU THE KANSAS CITY STAR (By a Staff Correspondent.) TOPEKA, Dec. 4.β€”The Earleton State Bank in Neosho County was closed today by order of the board of directors. This bank has no connection with the failure of the Peoples State Bank of Topeka or the Federal Trust or Terminal Trust companies of Kansas City. E. A. George was president and G. N. Banks was cashier of the bank. The capital was $10,000, and surplus $2,000. The deposits were $54,000, the loans $58,000, and the bank had $5,000 of borrowed money. GOSSIP OF SOCIETY. Mrs. E. C. Black will entertain with a bridge luncheon Wednesday. Mrs. R. Algernon Clark was the hostess of a luncheon Thursday at the Hotel President in honor of Mrs. J. C. Finke, Mrs. Harold Finke, Mrs. Helen Rush and Mrs. LeRoy Clayton of Joplin and Mrs. Harvey Dougherty. Mrs. L. O. Neel and daughter, Margaret Almeda, of Rochester, N. Y., who are guests of Mrs. Neel's mother, Mrs. Margaret J. Smith, will return home Thursday. Mrs. Raymond E. Teall entertained with a luncheon today for her small daughter, Mary Virginia, followed by a line party at the playlet, "A Day in Oz," which was given at the Kansas City Athletic Club. The guests were Frankie Ricksecker, Joan Tureman and Virginia Clark. Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Schooler have as their guest Mrs. W. E. Warrick of Aransas Pass, Tex. Mrs. Edward Bishop and children, June Margaret and Joyce, who have been guests of Mrs. Bishop's mother, Mrs. B. T. Jennings, have returned to their home in Bristow, Ok. Mrs. Martha Symons, 3022 Forest avenue, has returned from a four months' visit in Los Angeles. Announcements. The American Legion Auxiliary of Murray Davis Post will have an executive meeting at 1:30 o'clock and its regular meeting at 2 o'clock Tuesday at the American Legion Home, 3709 Broadway. The regular monthly meeting of the Twentieth Century Republican Club will be at the Hotel Baltimore at 10:30 o'clock Tuesday. Mr. William E. Morton, postmaster, will speak on "The Postoffice as a Business Asset to the Community. Mr. M. A. O'Donnell, one of the police commissioners, also will speak. Mrs. E. E. Elliott is president and Mrs. George P. Whyte corresponding secretary. The Kansas City Chapter, U. D. C., will meet at 2 o'clock Monday at the Hotel Muehlebach. The Ivanhoe Sewing Circle will hold its annual bazaar at Thirty-third street and Woodland avenue Thursday. A chicken dinner at noon and a card party in the afternoon. All are welcome. The Aladdin Club will meet Tuesday at 300 Norton avenue with Mrs. C. R. Jones. Luncheon served at 12:30 o'clock. The General Grant Social Club will have a bazaar Saturday at the Stop and Shop market. The Delta Chapter, Kappa Psi Delta Sorority will hold its regular monthly meeting at the Kansas City College of Osteopathy and Surgery at 7:30 o'clock Friday night. Dr. Mabel Anderson of Lakeside hospital will speak on "Schellberg's Colonic Irrigation."
