Corpse Discovered on Birthday Anniversary Of Victim DETROIT, Sept. 26.—(AP)—Lillian Gallaher was found today, on her eleventh birthday anniversary, strangled to death and her body stuffed into a trunk—undoubtedly the victim of a degenerate, police said. The trunk was in an apartment, six blocks from the home where Lillian's parents had awaited her return since last Thursday, with forebodings that grew hourly. Body Found The body was bound and a towel tied across the mouth as a gag. It was in an advanced state of decomposition but a medical examination this afternoon disclosed the girl had been criminally assaulted, strangled, and her skull crushed by a hammer. Police said the apartment was rented recently to a man who said Schaefer Issues Statement Defending Action of Conservator-Receiver Allegations against Ray Sugg in his capacity as conservator-receiver of the United States National bank here by Clyde Walker are misleading and ridiculous, Louis Schaefer, attorney for Sugg, declared in substance in a statement issued today. Schaefer asserted that Sugg's actions have been legal and natural. Parenthetically, Schaefer said that his only reason for taking the trouble to answer the charges elsewhere than in court was that some persons had misconstrued his silence. Takes Up Points Raised By Walker Taking up in the statement various points raised by Walker, attorney who represents some of the depositors of the former bank, the receiver's attorney, branded them as indefensible and silly.
