Looking Backward 12 YEARS AGO IN WEST CARROLL Rufus P. Roope of Chandler, Okla., arrived in Oak Grove Monday to take charge of the First National bank as receiver. Graduation exercises will be held in the auditorium of Pioneer high school at 8 o'clock p. m., May 23. Members of the class who are receiving special honors are Elsie Shannon, valedictorian, and Maydie Gaddis, for composing an outstanding essay on the subject, "Are Good Roads Worth Their Cost?" Eight girls and five boys will graduate from Oak Grove high school at the commencement exercises on May 31. Sarah Reneau has been elected valedictorian, and Carroll Dickinson, salutatorian. Scoutmaster H. W. Copeland, after spending several months in Arkansas, accompanied by "Skeet" McFarlin, returned to Oak Grove Wednesday morning. The town boys and high school team played a wild game of baseball last Saturday, resulting in a 21 to 3 victory for the former. Mach Shilling and Bill Davis and Leroy Mercer and Wesley Farmer were the batteries.
