Closed-for-Holiday Sign Starts Run On Cheyenne Bank CHEYENNE, Wyo., Nov. 13. โ A simple "bank closed" sign placed in the window of the Stockgrowers' National bank here Monday resulted in a mild "run" on the bank when it opened for business Wednesday morning. The sign, either inadvertently placed in the window by an employee of the bank or in anticipation of Armistice day, caused a railroad worker to spread the rumor among his fellow employees that the institution, considered the strongest in Wyoming, was insolvent. A line of depositors extending well into the street was on hand this morning to withdraw their money as the aftermath of the unfounded report. Rather than attempt to refute the canard, amused bank officials kept the bank open until 6:00 o'clock tonight to accommodate depositors. Just prior to closing, however, the waiting line had dwindled to a few persons. It is understood officials of the bank are attempting to locate the railroad employee, since a rumor of this kind is a penal offense in this state.
