RUN FORCES SECOND BANK AT DECATUR TO SUSPEND Decatur, Ind., June 14 (AP)βThe People's Loan and Trust Company of Decatur, capitalized at $25,000, closed its doors at noon today following a special meeting of the board of directors. It was the second bank closing in Decatur in two days, the old Adams County Bank having been closed yesterday. It was the fourth bank failure in the county in two weeks. After the closing of the old Adams County Bank yesterday, a steady run on the Peoples Loan and Trust began and continued this morning until the directors were compelled to close the bank at noon. With the closing, only one bank was left in the city. It is the First National Bank. A serious run on this institution has followed. The following notice was posted on the doors of the Peoples Bank at noon: "Closed for further protection of depositors." The failure leaves four banks in the county. They are the First National Bank of Decatur; the Preble State Bank; the Bank of Berne and the Bank of Geneva. Within the last two weeks the Peoples State Bank of Berne and the Linn Grove Bank, also have been closed. W. Matthias Kirsch is president of the institution closed today. E. E. Bell is vice president, and W. A. Lower is secretary-treasurer. Thomas D. Barr, deputy state banking commissioner, who came here yesterday to take charge of the old Adams County Bank, also took charge of affairs of the Peoples Loan and Trust Company, but declined to make a statement.
