Gross State Bank Closes Its Doors Special Dispatch to the World-Herald. Gross, Neb., Jan. 26.β€”The Gross State bank failed this morning. E. C. Hamilton is president and M. C. Hamilton, cashier. The capitalization was $10,000 and the deposits $100,000. The closing was expected in banking circles, the props going out from under the institution when the First National bank of Spencer, with which the Gross bank was affiliated, failed some time ago.

Court House Happenings Banker Putnam of Naper was a court house visitor Wednesday. V. F. Jedlicka, H. M. Hermann and John Hajek of Lynch were visitors at the county capitol Tuesday. Three probate cases came up in county court this week. They were the estates of B. L. Chambers, Eliza A. Clark and Carl Schumann. Edgar R. Johnson, receiver of the Gross State Bank, has begun suit against E. S. and Eva Pruden on a mortgage covering lots 13 to 22 in block 55, Gross. The Live Stock National Bank of Sioux City has begun suit in the district court against Frank Dahlenburg et al, to foreclose a mortgage given on Block 58, in the village of Gross. Transportation of intoxicating liquor was the charge filed against Charles F. Pratt and Lee Hellenbolt of Fairfax, Monday morning. The men were caught in Butte with liquor in their possession. Foreclosure proceedings against Bedrich Holec have been begun by Edgar R. Johnson, receiver of the Gross State Bank. The land involved in the suit is the northeast quarter of section 30, 35, 10. County Treasurer Tomek has received the money due the county from the American Exchange Bank at Bristow. This is money which was due the county when the bank suspended business some time ago. A marriage license was issued last Thursday, July 26th, to Paul Henry Reel of Gross and Miss Nellie Ruby Cooper of Lynch. After issuing the license, Judge Ford performed the ceremony which made them man and wife. Spelling Certificates: 5 Mary Arends, Marie Goedde, Florence Koenig, Martha Tiefenthaler, Pauline Reiser, Johanna Warnke, Susanna Warnke, Viola Detterman. Seals: Pauline Reiser. Home Credit Certificates: 62 Hildor Rondberg.

RURAL MAILMEN OF 4 COUNTIES HOLD MEETING Hartington, Neb., Oct. 25.-Special: The Northeast Nebraska Rural Letter Carriers association, comprising mailmen from the counties of Antelope, Cedar, Knox and Pierce, held their district meeting here. Secretary Francis gave an address on the serv. Ice of the rural carriers. William Foreman is president of the association. The women served a basket dinner. meeting of the will be held at Pierce next month when the state president of the Rural Car riers association will give an address. BANK RECEIVER DENIED RECOVERY ON $738 NOTE Lynch, Neb., Oct. 5.-Special: A trict court jury at Lincoln returned a verdict denying R. W. Ley, recelver of the Gross State bank, Gross, Neb., recovery and Interest on a note for $738 signed "by D. E. Foley, formerly of Spencer, Neb., now of LinFoley claimed he signed the note as an accommodation to the bank and that he received no consideration in return.
