ANOTHER AFFILIATED BANK IS CLOSED HELENA, July 11-L. Q. Skelton, State bank examiner returned today from Great Falls where he took charge of the Stanton Trust and Savings Bank and from Shelby, where the affairs of the first state bank at Shelby were placed in his hands, both banks having closed. On his return he stated that the First State Bank of Joplin, affiliated with the Stanton bank, had closed is doors, presumably as a. result of the failure of the Great Falls bank. The Joplin bank has deposits of about $40,000 and is cap. italized at $20,000. Examiner Skelton said he is forbidden by law to make any statements with reference to the condition of a bank placed in his hands. He said he would make a report to Governor Joseph M. Dixon probably within n. week and in that report probably would say whether in his opinion re. ceivers are necessary for the three banks or whether re-organizations and re-conditioning will be possible. AFFILIATED BANK HAS SUSPENDED BUSINESS Directors Say Difficulties not Brought About By Prize Fight at Shelby, Mont. Shelby, Mont., July 13.β€”Another backfire from the hectic financial flurries attending the promotion of the Dempsey-Gibbons fight came yesterday when it was learned that the First State bank of Joplin, affiliated with the Stanton Trust and Savings company of Great Falls, had also closed its doors. Stockholders of the Stanton bank, the First State bank here and the Joplin bank insisted yesterday that the fight had nothing to do with the suspension of their business and that they would all be operating again within 30 days. Keene & Buckner, architects and engineers, who built the arena, filed a lien yesterday against Mayor Jim Johnson for $6577.19, representing their services. The cost of the arena in the affidavits was mentioned as being 82,214.91 The property on which the arena was built is owned by Johnson, but he has transferred his title to his attorney. Johnson said that business in Shelby was better than ever and that the fight would have gone over big if the newspapers had not "put out bad publicity" during the last two weeks. He said there would be no great loss resulting from the fight, as the promoters felt sure of getting their money back from the movies of the fight.
